From Survival to Stillness: Reclaiming My Joy

From Survival to Stillness: Reclaiming My Joy

Georgia living has taught me this…

If you’re not careful of you, it’s easy to lose yourself in the process of helping others.

YOU must create sacred space to pour back into you — to rest, to realign, and to refocus. You deserve the same care you give so freely.

So, let’s be transparent…

When I came to Georgia in October 2021, I came as a twice-married woman. But within months, I was left uncovered, with the rug pulled from under me. I had to quickly readjust to life as a single mom, making sure we remained stable.

That change shifted the entire trajectory of why I came to Georgia in the first place and placed me in survival mode — just trying to get from hotel to home.

I could’ve easily gone back home, but the truth was, I had gotten rid of everything when I left. I carried only what mattered most — including my faith.

Somewhere along the journey, the compulsion to survive intensified and erased the thought of returning home.

Along the way, I managed to drown my own desires and became conditioned to the pull of others’ needs — in motherhood, in my job and all its stressors, and in a new marriage. I was on autopilot daily.

But it wasn’t until I lost a part of me through pregnancy loss that I truly realized the importance of pouring back into me — and the things that matter most to me.

Since then, I’ve continued to find balance, maintain boundaries, seek new opportunities, and choose healing — over and over again.

So I’ll tell you this…

Don’t get so consumed with the concerns of tomorrow or the needs of others that you forget to create the joy that belongs to you today.

When I say don’t get so consumed with the concerns of tomorrow or the needs of others that you forget to create the joy that belongs to you today, I’m speaking from experience.

It’s easy to get caught up in the responsibilities — motherhood, work, relationships, expectations — and before you know it, you’re moving through life on autopilot. You’re giving, serving, showing up for everyone else, but quietly running on empty.

The truth is, joy isn’t something that just happens to us — it’s something we must choose and create every single day. It’s found in the small moments we allow ourselves to breathe, laugh, rest, and just be.

When you stop postponing joy for “when things calm down” or “when everything falls into place,” you give yourself permission to live now — not just survive.

So today, I challenge you to:

1. Pause and check in with yourself.

2. Ask: What brings me joy right now?

3. Do one thing that fills you back up — even if it’s small.

Because your joy is your strength, and when you nurture it, everything around you begins to align differently.

Remember This:  The things God showed you are still within reach. The show out is in order! So get ready to celebrate your success — because every single stage of this journey deserves it.

Blessings and Freedom,

Candice Marie
